Grid Database provides information on regional phenomena

The Grid Database for 2020 has been completed and can be ordered. The Grid Database contains Statistics Finland’s coordinate-based statistical data calculated by map grid. Statistical data based on map grids enable detailed examination of regional phenomena independent of administrative boundaries.

The database contains data on the areas' population structure, level of education, income of inhabitants and households, size and stage in life of households, buildings and dwellings, workplaces, and main activities of inhabitants. This year, two new variables have been added to the Grid Database: one-person households and one-parent households with children.

The grid database is available for the whole of Finland by 250 m x 250 m, 1 km x 1 km and 5 km x 5 km map grid. In addition, different regional or data group selections and time series are possible. Other data, for example, on migration, commuting or car ownership, can also be produced by map grid as special compilations.

The Grid Database is used in locating market places, regional planning and research, for example.
