Nomenclature of materials and supplies

Starting from the statistical reference year 2019, the European Union’s CN nomenclature (Combined Nomenclature) will be used as the nomenclature of the inquiry on materials and supplies of manufacturing production. The CN nomenclature is the eight-digit classification of goods used in statistics on foreign trade. The nomenclature is revised annually. In the inquiry on materials and supplies of manufacturing production, answers can usually also be given on a less detailed six-digit level of the CN nomenclature.

The nomenclature of materials and supplies used in statistics on commodities was compiled on the basis of the statistical classification of products by activity (CPA) of the European Communities, adapting it to national needs. The first four digits describe a producing economic activity (nomenclature TOL2008, TOL2002 or TOL95 depending on the reference year). The length of the codes varies between six to eight digits.
